I don't recommend that you stay with Win 10 but, if you do, be sure to
follow the advice here:
<http://www.pcworld.com/article/2971725/windows/how-to-reclaim-your-privacy-in-windows-10-piece-by-piece.html>
In my development of some 450 households of 55+ senior citizens a
handful have been moved to Win 10 without their conscious consent. Some
have been successful in returning to Win 7 or 8.1 but some have been
only partially successful. They got the OS returned but not necessarily
all of their data... some lost images and other files. There are
several cases of having to replace printers because Win10 was installed
regardless of whether a Win10 printer driver was available.
Microsoft employed a subtle gotcha in February. Previously Win 10 was
classified as an "optional" upgrade. In February they changed the
classification to a "recommended" update. Accepting "recommended"
updates the same as "important" updates (bad bugs and security problems)
is the default setting for Window Update. If you weren't aware of this
sleight of hand you set yourself up for installing Win 10.
If you want to prevent it from being installed again I recommend you
install the GWX Control Panel.

Apply as much or as little control as you like.

My desktop was switched on this morning just as I got a call to
breakfast. Along with the last piece of toast I discovered that I was
being upgraded to Win 10 with no chance to turn back. The back button
put the download into a loop. All this without any request to "upgrade"
from Win 7 Pro ....!
Now I have Win 10 but and no backup disks should I need to do a
re-installation. Secondly I have this inane "Cortana" which invites me
to ask him / her "anything".
How or where do one acquire back up disks of Win 10.
Secondly how do I assign Cortana to the garbage bucket along with its
powers of seek and search on one's computer ?
