....a way I could find someplace to photo an American roof structure, you
would laugh out loud. It would look like toothpicks compared to yours. Cheap
....
Here are some examples :) these aren't taken for the roof structure.

...and I could go on. Just because the roof trusses look skinny doesn't
mean CHEAP. Efficient, yes but to a high engineering standard.
Especially here in a high seismic zone. The builder must meet stringent
building codes which right-wingers are always bitching about... gov't
interference. This brings the cost of a house shell down to more
affordable levels. Unfortunately a lot of people invest these savings in
more square feet instead of quality components. Talking small case
cheap look at trim, fit and finish, appliances, fixtures, landscaping
etc. I see a _lot_ of junk in other markets. No code to meet. A good
example is my son-in-law's father's huge house overlooking the Ohio
River. 2-3 million range (a guess) The fit and finish is appalling.
Obviously thrown together as fast as possible. Maintenance cost is huge
now as things fail. He could have knocked off 2000' and put the $$ into
quality and still have a huge nice house. A lot of competition in that
family though.
If one wants a massive framed roof or tiles one can always pay for it as
many around here do.
