I had a NAS go toes-up a few years ago and lost a bunch of stuff when
the backup DVDs also were corrupted. These days, I have stuff backup
up on a removable drive, which is usually off-site, or stored in the
concrete bunker under the house. And everything else of high value is
stored somewhere in a cloud or two.
Which reminds me, there is a secure data center next door to my office
that I can pay for storage or for the location of my own server. While
a bit more costly than the "free" options, it would allow me to
preload a server with all of my files and walk it in there myself.
