Mike,
Most of the stores Walmart is currently closing are not super stores,
but the smaller Walmart Express. Here is a map:

While they are not super stores, the action is even more insidious. Many
of these were located in very small towns that had only local stores.
When Walmart arrived, the local stores went out of business. With
Walmart closing, now there is nothing.

Oh well, it is hard to be conscious consumer these days.
Apparently Walmart is closing some super stores across the
south...after they've driven out the competition. This leaves the
locals unemployed and having to drive to the next town...if they have
transportation. which they can't afford if you work at Walmart or are
retired. Public transit in the US sucks.
