I agree pretty durn cool--last major unconfirmed prediction of general
relativity is verified. Yes, as electromagnetism is much stronger and
electromagnetic waves are easy to detect as they propagate through space-time,
gravitational waves also propagate at light speed
but are ripples in space-time itself. The event detected was right at the
border of detectability prior to the previous upgrade to the LIGO--two more
upgrades are planned enabling detection of less cataclysmic events. A new form
of astronomy
is thus born using gravitational waves. The cosmologists should have a field
day with real data from LIGO and the LHC to refine the models of everything.
SUSY (supersymmetry) is already just about moribund with the last round of LHC
data.
