I'm familiar with that scene.
When my late wife was growing up with two brothers, they had a dog named
Jigs that always sat beneath the table near my wife and her younger
brother. The dog learned to love English peas, among other things that
got slyly offered to him.
Our own kids had birthdays in warmer weather. We moved the high chair
out by the picnic table in the back yard for their younger birthdays.
