I've used quite a few of them through the years. Seems like every
radio station had at least one lurking around in a production studio
or used for "sound checks". The reason I'd get one now is strictly for
this project that I've bid on. And the reasoning has less to do with
the sound quality as the physical solidity. They are just built a bit
better and the wow-and-flutter is good. But I find they are quite
lacking in sonic transparency. Similar to the SONYs in that regard.
They measure out really well, but sound a little cold to my ears.
The big issue I'm having with these tape decks is the age of them now
means that plastic bits can break and rubber bits are dried out and
hard. Also, another issue is that if you don't bake a tape before
running it through the machine, you'll end up with a pile of oxide to
clean up.
