I've seen a fair amount of that material in person, and the images seem about
right. They are really BRIGHT!
The bright reds may be part of a tradition that goes back into antiquity, as a native insect easily provides a powerful
red dye, cochineal, which was a major export after the Spanish conquest, as it was far better than anything available up
to that time in Europe or Asia.
All those colors now are from artificial dyes, though.
