Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that Petzval designs were
copied by others but it's not surprising if there was no patent. Even
if there was a patent that was a long time ago and patents do not last
forever.

Petzval lenses are not rare. However, the prices are expensive if with
brand name, such as Voigtlander, Dallmeyer etc. They are over US$1,000 but
there is cheaper version without brand name because no patent for the
Petzval Lens, so that many manufacturers produced Petzval lenses in that
era.
The image circle coverage depends on the focal length. My 6in F3.6 Petzval
covers 4x5" in fit no any movement, my another 8-1/4in F4.5 can cover 5x7".
Of course the image circle may be enlarger if slow speed water-house
applied.
