I don't know as I have seen the very first one before, as it reveals the
rigging configuration of the Endurance that I had not realised. The foremast
is rigged much like the single-masted (later refitted as a brigantine) 18th
century sloop "Lady Washington" that I've recently seen, with a gaff rigged
sail together with the square rigged sails. The main and mizzen masts of the
Endurance are both gaff rigged. Pretty odd for an open-sea vessel, more like a
coastal cargo ship (aka coaster).
