News reports in the popular press made this sound like a dramatic
increase in sensitivity of all digital sensors. This press release from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison makes it sound like it's a dramatic
sensitivity improvement limited to flexible sensors.

The specs of the device are available here if anyone knows how to
interpret them.

I don't know what it means but this sounds impressive:
"... the photodetector is shown to have a photoconductive gain of ≈109
electrons per photon..."
It doesn't copy properly but that's supposed to be 10 to the 9th power.
