  Thanks for the images and measurements, Jim.  Did not think about whether the 
leaves were wet or not--clearly can matter.  Perhaps the most determinant 
variable whether the leaves 
tumble or flutter down w/o turning  relates to the stem weight vs sail area, 
though you would understand the aerodynamics better.  Your leaf is much 
prettier than my "experimental subject A" 
as well.  We had much more red last year.
