The lady on the switchboard would have been at a call centre somewhere, I’m
afraid. The system is centralised and the MOD would be charged for every
enquiry.
We had a Spitfire and a Hurricane opening our village show a couple of weeks
ago. I was still at home and went outside to get the registration of the
miscreant flying illegally low over my house. I did recognise the sound before
I reached my door and was very excited to see the nose of a Hurricane pointing
at my house, followed by a Spitfire, slightly offset.
I was too slow to get my camera . . .
They were from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and I trained one of their
pilots only a few days later :-)
