By Wednesday we should all be seeing news reports of serious flooding in
southern Arizona. TD 16-E will arrive here Monday night, and it's already
forecast to deliver as much as 2" of rain here.
The community of Arizona City sits in the middle of a very shallow playa
(which is a dry lake bed) along the course of the Rillito, which is the major
waterway (er... dry streambed) that passes through Tucson. It receives all of
the runoff from the southern, western, and northern slopes of the Santa
Catalina Mountains. It also receives the flow from the Santa Cruz Rive and the
runoff from the eastern side of the Tucson Mountains. Those folks living in
Arizona City are going to see some very serious flooding.
