To Answer Chucks question it probably doesn't do sorting better but it
doesn't do it worse either and as pointed out it can do a lot more
beside and like others I rarely use photoshop so its sooo much more
efficient.
Chris I think you should relook at LR, I wasn't keen on it initially but
version 6 is very good and much improved on aperture - it also has an
aperture import function so having spent a bit of time importing my old
aperture libraries I now have all my photos in a Lightroom catalogue
along with 1to1 previews and smartpreviews (just over 400G) which I have
copied to my laptop. I don't have the current year as that is changing
frequently and I have kept that as a second LR catalogue, but I will add
it in the new year, and create a new seperate one for 2016 this means I
can carry all my images (over 10years worth) with me on the laptop when
I visit the family in the UK and show whomever is interested any photo -
without also carrying the 1.5TB of raws.
I was a non believer but LR is very good and much better than aperture now

That sounds good, Chuck. It’s the sort of thing that I’m looking for but for the Mac.
At present I use Aperture, intending to migrate to Capture One, but it’s not quite the same.

I don't see that that's any different than what I normally do using
BreezeBrowser Pro or even (freebie) FastStone viewer. In BreezeBrowser I
select everything I want to review, go into slideshow mode, and review each
image as I step through them at full-screen size using the arrow keys. On the
first pass I tag the duds by just tagging them using the up arrow key. Then I
delete the duds. If I need to rank them I can make another pass in slideshow
mode and rank them from 1 to 5. If there are closely related images and I'm
trying to figure out which is best I can bring them up in a 2, 3 or 4 way
comparison with synchronized or selective magnification for closer scrutiny. A
4-way comparison is fine. I don't long for any more. But this is the point
where Bridge fails. It can't do this simple stuff in such a straightforward
manner.
