The coffee shop wifi is provided by 19CL, and so is the cable connection
at the bike shop. The Earthlink dialup connection is 19CL twisted pair to
optical fiber to the modem stack. The most serious disruption was with the two
connections using 19CL as the internet provider.
After evilBay cleared up their problems yesterday afternoon, the thoughput
using the Earthlink dialup connection was faster than it has been in almost a
year. The coffee shop wifi speed this morning is no different than it had been
prior to yesterday.
Given the problems with malicious evilBay content over the years (such as
piggy-back trojans), I'm wondering if 19CL was blocking evilBay due to malware
content. Or perhaps it was a faulty router somewhere between evilBay and my
regional location. Either of these would explain the chronic problems I've
experienced while others see no disruption.
Also, given that this problem prevailed with two distinctly different
laptops (Dell 6000 and MacBook Pro) and three operating systems (WinXP, Win7,
and Macincrash) pretty much rules out my WinXP laptop being solely at fault.
