Hi list Audiophiles
this week I purchased a cheap but supposedly good blue ray player, hifi
has been boxed up and in storage for a while but now I am thinking of
putting it into service again, the issue is that the outputs from the
TV, BlueRay player etc.. are all optical and my old Arcam amp (AV50
which I used with an 8P biwired) is analogue only, I have read about
DACs for stereo (arcam it seems actually make one of the best) but I
can't find any information on how to get surround sound into my analogue
amp or if it will it separate the channels from a stereo DAC. I used to
run it with a toshiba SD9000 dvd player which provided all 6 the outputs.
I could of course buy a soundbar, new amp etc.. but that seems a waste
and the arcam setup with the marantz CD 52 signature sounded pretty darn
good and pretty OK for surround.
I know there have been discussions about cables but when I bought my
setup I did so at the shop listening to various combinations and opted
for decent cables for the speakers and the interconnects, I was pretty
sure I heard a difference, however I don't doubt the wisdom on the list
and wonder if the "standard" cables they use had maybe been abused a bit
to make them sound worse rather than the other cables better.
