Charlie, all the stuff you need can be found here.

If she can setup the printer close to her computer she can use a wired
connection (but you'll probably have to supply a USB cable... after
software install)
Setting up the first wireless connection at home is handled by the
device driver installation software (make sure no USB cable is connected
during software install). The install software prompts for the name of
the network and the password.
Changing the connection requires changing the network name and password.
In the fully detailed user's guide (bottom of page 201) it discusses
attaching wirelessly using the printer's own setup wizard utility.
Hopefully it is self-explanatory since there is little other detail
given. You might want to step through this with her before she leaves
home. The next question is: Who's supplying the school network wi-fi
router connection and password. In fact, is there one???

My daughter is headed off to college soon and we purchased an HP 4500
wireless printer for her. I had the thought of getting it set up before she
goes off to school. There is no manual (just a piece of paper that says to
go to xyz.com/setup and follow the instructions) but I believe it works
through WiFi (i.e. not a direct communication between laptop and printer)
and I am concerned if I set it up at home through our wifi, that when she
gets to school the thinkum-dinkum will get confused when it sees another
wifi network. Are my fears justified? Any advice would be helpful.
