Not tried it, Ian, but my initial thought would be to try to link the sound
output from an ultrasonic bat detector (Magenta work well) with a
Triggertrap. The difficulty would be that the detector is non-directional,
but you might get around that with careful aiming and tuning, given that you
know where they are heading. And film is cheap.
But did you really mean film??

Subject: [OM] Bats - anybody managed to capture any in flight?
Hi All,
We had some pals over for a BBQ at the weekend and sat down by our
swimming pond in the evening (its been 37.5C (99.5F) ) where it was
cooler for a beer or two and as dusk came so did the mosquitoes which
swam over the water, these were then followed by some bats which skimmed
the water and snacked on the mossies. They fly very fast and I wondered
if it would be possible to capture them on film without an electronic
switch and automatic flash set up, I guess not but if anyone knows how
to do it I am confident they would be on this list.
Thanks IanW
