“Puerto” means “mountain pass” in Spanish, and this morning I set out on my
bicycle for Puerto de Tudons, a well-known pass around here which often
features in the Vuelta a España bicycle race. I live at sea level, so to get to
1024 meters means serious climbing. This is the first time I have attempted
this pass. I left at 9 a.m. to avoid the afternoon heat while climbing—the
temperature did his 36C during the ride, but that was on the downhill portion,
so OK. It ended up as a 105 km ride with 1650 meters of climbing, but I feel
very good about the Guinness I am enjoying right now. And I have some pictures
:-)
This is about 30 km into the ride—the mountains in the distance is where I am
going:

I made it!

And the world is at my feet, seemingly—and I have a 30 km descent to look
forward to:

Not bad for a 54-year old MAMIL.
Cheers,
