It seems to me there are only two sensible responses to a Canadian
winter: hibernate or migrate. Of course, not everyone can afford to do
either and some people do greatly emjoy winter sports.
I spent most of last winter in the Phillipines, mainly in one town,
and greatly enjoyed it. Cheap, most people speak English, and the
lowest temperature I saw was18C, about 65F.
