Hi Chris, I think only in the "mac" world (and maybe only Switzerland)
would anyone buy 4 or 5 year old computer, but the older mac pros are
incredibly built and so expandable. I paid the price of a new mac mini
to get something with much better performance and although I will spend
that much again on new CPUs, graphic card and a PCIe SSD card it should
keep me going for quite a while and be not far behind a new top line
machine in performance but costing me a lot less to build
As to card flashing, this basically involves installing different
"firmware" on a card designed to be installed in a PC but one that will
work in a MAC however to get full functionality it needs hacked firmware
- I am not sure why the verb flash is used but I guess because its over
in a flash.

What sort of process is flashing a graphic card, Ian? But yes, Im envious
of your new machine :-)

You are correct - I have been mistaken in my understaning of the meaning of
spendthrift until now and should have used miserly. I fell into the trap of
making an assumption, I expect that's not the only new thing I learn today,
later I will be flashing a new graphic card for my newer mac pro :-)
