We plan to fly in Seattle on Saturday the 15th and leave the next Saturday or
Sunday. We will have a rental car.
We're more into history and scenery more than wildlife or night life.
Ghost towns and old cemeteries would be high on the list, especially ghost
towns with old cemeteries.
Then the tours of underground Seattle tours are a must. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Underground> And if you
generally like old stuff, the surrounding Pioneer Square area should please you. There are a couple of ancient
restaurants there, one (still?) with dining areas a floor down in excavated rooms from the old level - very atmospheric,
good food.
Mixing photography and history, there's a shop a block or two south of the square proper with lots of original prints
out of Edward S. Curtis' portfolios of prints of Indian life, portraits, etc.
This is the brass age elevator

in Seattle's first 'skyscraper', the Smith Tower <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Tower>
As mentioned, the Pike Place Market is a lot of fun for those who like lots of shops and big crowds in the open air
part. :-) We had fun there and a good meal at the Pike Brewing company. If you like museums, Seattle's Art Museum is a
nice one, as is the Frye Art museum. The nearby campus of Seattle University is a pleasant place where I found some nice
photo ops. <http://galleries.moosemystic.net/MooseFoto/index.php?gallery=Travel/Seattle/Christmas_2012>
Plus trains and airplanes. We will probably visit the Northwest Railroad museum
and the Boeing factory.
I'd like to do some kayaking but my wife is not too keen on it.
Tentatively we were planning on catching a ferry to Canada when we arrived. Then spend a
day or so there and head back. We have no idea what to do or see once we get there. It's
kind of a "we are so close we might as well" kind of thing.
We don't need to stay within the city limits, just somewhere in the area. Being
from Texas we are used to driving fairly long distances.
There are more outdoors scenic places of beauty in reasonable driving distance than you have a prayer of seeing. There
are also nice relatively wild parks along the water in the towns north of Seattle proper. If your wife likes a bit of
pampering, there is a womens' only spa that my wife and a friend rave about. Could give you the chance to visit/shoot
something that bores her?
We'll be there just about a month later, for a family wedding, but will take
some extra days to noodle around.
Remember to take your rain gear. :-)
