Normally the Towhees, both male and female, are ground feeders,
scratching and kicking wildly to see what they can uncover. Sometimes a
girl just has to find out how others live. Here, the female landed on
top of the feeder, clearing out the birds that were feeding below.

For a few days this time of the year, the Grosbeaks pass through, giving
us a flash of color. This appears to be an immature male, without the
fully-developed red color on his breast.
