I carry spare batteries, and extreme cold (well, what many here would call
moderate cold) stops me before my cameras.

It's not the dampers, dood! Look at Gary's lens tests and the many cases where the OM-1 results with mirror lock-up are
much poorer than OM-4. Aperture prefire with self timer is slow, and awkward, but makes a huge difference. The OM1, 2, 3
and 3Ti just don't have that option.
Maitani did many wonderful things in his designs. He made a serious error in aperture stop down mechanism design. Did he
just want to be different than Nikon? Even Nikon added aperture stop down along with mirror lock up by the F2.
I loved my OMs, for decades, much of the time with an OM-2n, but before the OM-4 they had an Achilles heel. I could (and
have) go on at some length about the differences between the OM and Nikon stop down mechanisms and why the Oly is wrong.
