I would try other players. Sometimes standards are not properly followed.

Local musicians always make for cool photos. It's possible that the process
they used to make the cd's resulted in an imperfect burn, unless they're
commercially-produced. CD's are universal, unless there's a flaw in
manufacturing or it's a burned CD-R and some regular audio cd players don't
like 'em. If you'd like to send me one, I have an assortment of players to
try them on. If I can get it to play, and can extract the files, I can
re-burn for you.
