I used to rib a friend at work about his jumping out of perfectly good
aircraft. One Monday morning I arrived to find an 8x10 photo on my desk. It
was the DC-3 they usually used for jumps--in flames on the runway. His
primary complaint about the incident was that it had caught fire at the
start of its take-off roll, and they hadn't got to bail out at altitude.
Instead they'd had to jump out and run away.
