Um... no. UV filters block UV light, which is often associated with haze.
Other than that, you're right on the mark. But, as we found last year,
the Wratten filters used with B&W film do not work the same way with digital.
Nor do the internal colour emulations in the E-500/510/520, and according to a
local B&W expert that's the nature of the beast. Can you say "disappointing"?
Because of this I've resorted to taking the best colour photo I can,
correcting for the ambient light tempereature with 81 and 82 series filters,
then digitally adding the Wratten filters with FilterSim, and finally
converting to B&W with DxO FilmPack.
However, looking at the manuals for the E-500 and E-510 yesterday revealed
that at least with the E-500 there are no modifications made to the image in
RAW mode, you're instead recording the actual pixel data. Since the E-500 has
a 24M TIFF raw recording mode I'll make an initial comparison between that and
the 1.7M JPEG mode to see if this is true, then make the same comparison
between those and the ORF raw mode if there's a noticeable difference.
