We all have them. They are lurking in the shadows, under chairs,
everywhere. They reach out and quickly grab any dropped object and squirrel it
away in a deep, dark spot that you cannot reach. They conceal tools and other
items when you're not watching, even for a moment.
They were out in force this morning. They concealed a dial caliper, a
small flashlight, and a modified screwdriver. I had just used the dial
caliper, but I managed to find it beneath a pair of freewheels. They grabbed
the flashlight I was using to find the dial caliper and the screwdriver was
last seen two days ago. Never found either of them. Got out a spare
flashlight, and finally dragged myself down to the hardware store, bought a new
stub screwdriver, then modified it with the Dremel tool.
The cashier at the store asked the usual "How's it going?", and after
hearing a bit of my story suggested that I invent a "Gremlin Trap". The light
went on, and I left in a euphoric fantasy of the possibilities.
I'll be wealthy beyond my wildest dreams as everyone will want one. First
step is to determine what they look like and what attracts them the most.
