I don't want to say at this time, other than to say that they clean up

I have made a lot of progress about his matter this morning. I've spent a
lot of time reading blogs about this, and the overall conclusion is that each
program has to terminate before the next command can be executed. That means
that launching programs that do not terminate and instead run in background is
not possible within the confines of WinXP/7/8/9/.... batch files. This is one
of the very few times that I've run into anything with WinXP that is NOT an
improvement over Win98/SE.
I downloaded and installed a small program called BATCHRUN.EXE. I then
used it to create a batch file to do what I have been wanting. It has it's own
priority script, and it runs just fine except that it will not minimize the
background program. That's not a burden, and even with that it's a definite
improvement over what I've been using.
I'll later download and try AutoIt, as it appears to be more mature and
robust.
