I took my new/used E-500 camera out for a shakedown this morning with the
Tamron 35-80 lens. It works fine in every way. It's now going to be kitted
with a few accessories and used as my cycling camera.
In stark contrast, the lens that came with it is toast. Other than a few
scratches on the nose, it's in very good cosmetic shape. However, it will not
focus either manually or automatically, so there is something wrong with it
internally. I was going to pitch it into the rubbish, but since I know that
broken items such as this are often valuable as a source of parts to keep
others running I will happily give this to anyone who can use it on a
first-come basis for nothing more than the cost of mailing it.
It's no loss to me. The camera body, battery, and 10G CF card are easily
worth much more than what I paid for the entire lot. The 14-45/3.5-5.6 lens
that came with my first E-500 was used for a few months, but then I discovered
that you could use old MF lenses, so it was retired and carefully stored away.
Since then, I've enjoyed using all sorts of MF lenses that I never would have
thought affordable back when I was shooting film with the OM-1.
