Every so often I look at offerings for E-500/510/520 bodies on evilBay.
Last week I came across a listing for an E-500 with the 14-45/3.5-5.6 lens for
just $40 total. The seller said he didn't have a battery to test it and was
therefore selling it as-is for parts. The lens had a little scuffing on the
nose, but I did not care as I retired the one I have a few years ago in favour
of better performing MF lenses. For just $40 it was worth taking a risk.
It arrived this morning. It did have a battery, though with a minimal
charge remaining. It also has a 10G CF card. I turned it on and it worked for
the most part, the only discrepancy being that the lens will not focus,
probably due to whatever caused the damage to the nose. That does not concern
me in the least as I took it off and replaced it with a nice Tamron SP
35-80/2.8-3.8 macro.
The battery and CF card are almost worth what I paid for this, so the
camera body itself was virtually free.
