I think the real reason for misthreading has something to do with how one
starts a new thread on the list, and likely something buried in the email
header. I often start a thread by clicking reply to an existing thread and then
deleting the subject line and old content it creates the misconnection. That
comes about for me from being lazy and also not having the list address as a
contact. If as the OP of a thread you start by creating a new email and send it
to the OM list address I'm willing bet it doesn't occur.
It also wouldn't surprise me if this behavior only happens with certain email
readers, I know it does with the Apple iPhone Mail app.
