Files have owners. It is the owner who must authorize access. Sticking
with read only access (all that's required) should keep it simpler that
trying to authorize write access.
I converted my old XP 32-bit machine to Win 7 64-bit about a year ago.
Some things I simply copied over the network but, since I was moving a
huge amount of stuff I ultimately pulled the drives out of the XP
machine and inserted then into an external eSATA drive dock. Much
quicker that way.
