I don't know why I didn't think of that. In that last two weeks I've
been to our two local recycling centers 3 times to dispose of both toxic
and electronic waste while preparing for our move. I even need to go
once more to dispose of a printer that I decided to discard.
I was astonished by the large number of CRT devices (both TVs and
monitors) that are at both places. One of the places is designated for
electronic waste and the other (much larger facility) is designated for
toxic waste. But I think all the electronic waste is ultimately moved
to the larger facility for final disposal.
But Ed can at least tell you that what he has is in working condition.

I have at least one or two nice multi-sync 17" trinitron CRTs I'd give you
for free. They both work great, I bought them new back in the day.
Shipping would cost something, I am in NH. Figure they probably weigh at
least 30lbs ?
Locally, check your local dump/recycling station. Around here, there's
tons of free monitors and TVs for the taking, most all of which work. I
got 2 or 3 32"+ CRT TVs for various friends for free that way.

I suspect I will
have to find a used 17-inch CRT somewhere to get simple functionality
and multi-synch capability. From what I can find on-line, LCD displays
are very poor when operated away from their native resolution.
