Sony just starts off on my bad side probably going all the way back to
the BetaMax/VHS wars. I don't think they've ever met a standard that
they liked if they didn't invent it.
I'm not sure why they bought Konica/Minolta. There were some nice additions to that line of cameras but I don't think the newer cameras such as the A7 have much input from those older engineers. Without any real justification I view Sony's engineers as 20-somethings who are designing an electronic device first and a camera second. I was thrilled when the A7 was announced as I'd (stupidly) still very much like to have a full frame mirrorless camera but (even though I've never seen or handled one) I wouldn't buy one after reading DPR's review of the A7 and family. They make some computer/video things and some have lenses attached but that's it.And that's different than the rest? I've never owned a Sony still camera, nor do I have any current idea I might in the foreseeable future. I just don't see how they are different in the respect you mention than the other camera makers. They got into the still camera business by buying Konica/Minolta, which were 'real' camera companies, and appear to have built from that base. Not advocating anything, just curious.
