As I struggled with 100' garden hoses this morning, I
told Tom that if I ever moved to a condominium, it would be because of
garden hoses! I hate them more than lawn mowers, weed wackers or any
other garden tool.

Tina, there's a simple solution
to all this, and it doesn't involve giving up gardening.
Install a set
of underground ( or even over-ground) pipes with take-off points in
suitable locations. And sprinklers or drippers where needed; to suit you
crop and plant(s).
Then just operate the valves manually as needed,
OR, as is done here, control them electronically, even with a rain
sensor to miss a switching-on if it has rained in the last 48 hours or
whatever applies.
Saves your back, legs, patience, and time ....
