In the 70s, Nikon had the "Medical Nikkor", F mount, which had a built
in ring light in the front.

Yes, it was Nikon. I saw one of those in a thrift store a couple of
years ago. It's actually a complete camera, and neither the lens nor
the ring flash can be removed.
