You still need the equatorial to keep the target stars in frame, or keep
repositioning. Depends on length of exposure. DSS adds all the light frames
together, subtracts the noise from the dark frames. Makes stars that are
really dim visible.

Why so many frames? So DSS obviates the need for an equitorial tracking
mount? What does it do with the exposure?
