Thanks, Ian.
I saw a Catalina practising at Farnborough a couple of weeks ago, when I was
down for a meeting with Fenns, makers of NVGs.
I don’t see the attraction in the Vulcan, and I really don’t agree with its
name. But then I know that I’m a curmudgeonly solo in that respect :-)
There were plenty of 2-seat Hunters made and many of those still flying are
2-seat, ghastly things that they were to fly: small engine and way too much
metalwork around the canopy. I much preferred flying the single-seaters (F6,
F6A, FGA9 and FR10). It might have had something to do with the fact that, as
a student, I was always under more pressure when in a 2-seater (T7, although I
flew a T8 later).
It’s good to see the F4 again, and the Harrier, although very sad that the
latter is no longer flying in British military service.
