I recently completed another full circuit of our home star and obtained an
SP-100EE "superzoom". Now this is a cheap, consumer*-oriented camera with a 50x
24-1200mm (35mm equiv.) camera with a bunny-sized 16MP sensor, but I've been
wanting a camera I can use around the house for grab shots and wildlife shots
for Internet use (eg. social media). Anyway, the quality of the sensor is going
to disappoint up against what we mostly use, and there's probably just a smidge
of compromise in making a lens like that, but I'm finding it decidedly fun &
useful. For that length of zoom, it has a "red dot sight" which looks gimmicky,
feels gimmicky to use, but is quite useful - I was surprised. But I also bought
an Eye-Fi Mobi card for it and that's just perfect for what I'm using it for.
It works quite seamlessly once the app was set up on my iPhone. Nifty. I even
think the Loved One might pick the camera up for his Facebook efforts when I
show him how easy it works. It (wifi transfer) is
definitely a feature I'll look for in future cameras.
Anyway, TL;DR: cheap camera, amazing zoom, surprisingly fun & useful, useful
gimmick, wifi transfer good.
(I might also have gone for Fujifilm's S1 for its weather resistance, or
Panasonic's smaller-zoom TZ60/ZS40 for its pocketability too.)
Cheers,
Marc
