Thanks for the information, Chuck. I have been working with the trial
version for several days. I have had quick responses to two emails, and
learned that the next update, due in a few weeks, will support the Fuji
xtran (sp) sensor with its raw converter. Lack of a way to access my
X-E1 raw files, and no obvious way to add plugins for Neat Image and
Focus Magic have been the only faults that I could find. At least half
of that will go away soon, and I can always use the other tools as stand
alone programs.

PW Pro is excellent software from Jonathan Sachs (creator of Lotus

editor and I used it regularly for a couple of years before being
trained to use PhotoShop. I consider PhotoShop masking with layers to
be superior to PW Pro's masking without layers but it certainly does
do masking. Even so I still continued to use PW Pro for extensive
cloning work since I considered the PW Pro cloning tool much better
than PhotoShop. If you're not deeply into layers and masking then you
might very will find PW Pro superior to PhotoShop or certainly at
least as good. What I cannot comment on is PW Pro's raw file
conversion. I never used it in the past since I shot only JPEG in
those days. That could be critical to me since I now depend so
heavily on ACR.
I haven't upgraded my own copy of PW Pro since version 4.0. It's now
at version 7.0 so must have a lot of new function I've never seen. I
see that I can still upgrade from PW Pro 4.0 for about $46.
Either one of us can download the latest version and give it a try for
free for 30 days. I think I may do just that to check it out and
maybe you should do the same. Ken will no doubt be along shortly to
tell you it's the cat's meow. You can download it here.

Norman Koren has always been a big supporter of PW Pro and he has an
intro here. <http://www.normankoren.com/PWP_intro.html> But be aware
that the intro goes all the way back to version 3.0 and I don't know
how relevant it is to 7.0.
While supposedly easier to use than PhotoShop the PW Pro user's manual
is still 538 pages long (which doesn't include special documentation
files available for in-depth tutorials on some subjects)
I also own a fairly recent copy of Corel's Paint Shop Pro (version
X6). It does 64 bit processing and also does layers. But I haven't
spent any time with it to evaluate it.

After several weeks of problems with Adobe PhotoShop Elements 12, with
no solution in sight and no interest on the part of Adobe, I am
examining other options. The cloud is of no interest to me, nor is
cataloging. I am currently checking out Picture Window Pro 7.0. Any
comments on this and other options that may be available?
