The cry as the yanks disembarked in France in 1917 was “Lafayette, we are here!”
I believe the events that followed, i.e., Second Marne, and subsequent
altercations during the 1940s settled all the old accounts in full, except that
the French still hold us at arms length, which, all things considered, is
probably not a bad idea. <g>
