It’s true that LR doesn’t do layers, but layers are kind of an anachronism.
A well, so am I, so we are an appropriate pair. ;-)
LR allows individual adjustments that are infinitely re-doable, in any sequence. You don’t like your
curves, do them again. It’s not a separate layer, but it doesn’t have to be because you can
ratchet it back to where you started and do it over again. I know there are some uses for layers that LR
won’t cover, and a trip to Photoshop is in order. But not as often as it used to be. At least not
for me.
I just posted an alternative view of Tina's hail damaged leaf. Just a casual play, that involved eleven layers. Most of
my Actions for various tools add them as a new layer, without my even thinking about it.
The leaf and the background are completely separated with layer masks. The highlights of the water on the leaf are
another mask.
That allows me to adjust each without affecting the others. LR doesn't do that, except with the sorta separation of
effects ala Nik-like control points, which I abominate.
Just for fun, I added another version, varying only by the brightness of the leaf. One click on a layer.
