Stone on wooden boards - they sometimes use chestnut tree pegs in lieu of nails
- and the scales effect - gravity and weight other stones laid atop the first
row, etc.
the slope of the roof is not steep at all, which may help, 35% max
When building steeper roofs they use slates, or wooden chips or nowadays zinc
;-)
