Attended Sweetwater Sound's "Gearfest" this past weekend in Chris's neck
of the woods (Ft. Wayne). It's like a camera show, but for people with
an audio gear addiction.
One of the biggest thrills was meeting legendary recording engineer
Bruce Swedien, a man with 5 Grammys to his name, the guy who recorded
Michael Jackson from 1978 through 2001, including "Thriller". If you're
familiar with those recordings, listen to them again and realize just
how clean and fresh they still sound after almost 40 years. Swedien is
just brilliant.
He was sitting at a table on Friday signing copies of his three books.
Fortunately, we have two friends in common, so when I introduced myself,
he warmed to me right away. That came in handy when I asked if I could
take his photo, and wanted his wife of 61 years, Bea, to be in the photo
as well. She was surprised that I wanted her in the photo, but I
explained they were a team, so she agreed. And then Bruce turned to Bea
and gave her a big kiss...making a cool photo into a wonderfully cooler
photo!
Top two are from Friday: http://zone-10.com/tope2/main.php?g2_itemId=2909
And then there are three here, including one drummer and two shots of
musical gear porn: http://zone-10.com/tope2/main.php?g2_itemId=5407
Enjoy. C&C encouraged.
