I believe that it is fairly typical for the sons of well-off families in S.E.
Asia to spend a year as a monk, to knock some humility into them. So there may
be quite a few lads in orange who haven't quite fully adopted the lifestyle or
don't mind finding a chunk of meat in the egging bowl. There's a similar
tradition here of wealthy kids spending time as a Jackaroo on a remote station
to give them a sense of perspective and toughen them up.
