I'm not sure I understand the need for a land line, unless cell service is poor.
We have some sort of family plan, with two phones, some number of minutes/mo.,
some GB of data/mo. The minutes are all
good for anywhere in the US, and night and weekend calls are all free.
Carol plans long calls to her sisters and distant friends mostly for free
times, but doesn't obsess about it. I don't
think we've yet used all the minutes in a month. We came close on minutes and
almost ran out of data GB once when
traveling, the day before they refilled.
We have a land line, but only because of Comcast's goofy pricing; fastish Web
plus phone is cheaper than web alone. We
recently had a house guest whose phone had some problem. I had to scramble to
connect the land line, not reconnected
since a modem change. It worked, but hasn't otherwise been used.
