A doctor whom I know slightly was an eighteen-year-old GI in April, 1945,
with the US Army unit that got into the camp at Dachau. The experience
changed his life--he decided to become a physician and vowed to do whatever
he could to reduce human suffering. He's still working as a physician,
well into his eighties. If looking at images is bad enough, can one
imagine what it must have been like for this young man, and his fellow
soldiers, to actually be there?
