Hi all,
Please see
http://zone-10.com/tope2/main.php?g2_itemId=11777 and the two to the
right.
To carry on from what Mike L wrote, cruising - timber cruising
- as it once was in New Zealand and possibly elsewhere, is the
tree-by-tree assessment of a block of forest prior to sale or felling,
to determine its worth.
All (individual) trees (or in some instances
carefully randomised sample thereof) were assessed / measured by the
criteria; species, height, DBH (diameter at breast height - usually 4 ft
6 inches above ground), total height, merchantable height, and defects.
Double-bitted axes were (never?) used here, and the favourite cutting
tool when cruising was probably the slasher.
The next two photos are
self-explanatory.
The set of photos of Joe are likely to be the last I
will take for a very long time; his mother is behaving like a real
b_i_t_c_h and basically has excommunicated herself from my company and
that of my fiancee, Maggie.
Sad but true ...
Brian
